Junior Feis Shield Preliminary round
Con Magees 1-19 Ruairi Og 2-6
Despite falling behind in the early stages Con Magees got the better of Ruairi Og tonight (Tue) at Fr Maginn Park in the preliminary round of the Junior Feis Shield. Trailing by 0-2 to 1-1 after just four minutes the home side dominated the remainder of the half to lead by 1-13 to 0-2 at half time, the goal coming just before the break from full-forward Declan Traynor. Cushendall started the second half strongly and got a goal back three minutes after the restart but the Glenravel men were able to keep the gap at a safe margin and they went on win with a bit to spare.
Two early pointed frees by Conor McNeill gave Glenravel the lead but the visitors hit back with a goal and a point from a Cormac McClafferty to go two ahead. However for the remainder of the half it was the Con Magees were in control and seven point from Declan Traynor (2), Neill McCann (2) Jonathan Fyfe, Conor McNeill and Padge O’Neill in reply to just one from McClafferty put them well clear, and when Traynor goaled in first half injury time it was all but decided.
Things were much more even in the second half and an early goal from Ciaran O’Boyle closed the gap. However Glenravel were always holding the upper hand and though McClafferty hit a series of excellent points there was always a reply from the home side who ran out winners by 1-19 to 2-6
