St Joseph’s Dunloy were the Hurling winners and St Patrick’s & St Brigid’s Ballycastle the Camogie winners as nine schools from around North Antrim took part in Friday’s Cumann na nBunscol Skills competition at sun-kissed Glenariff. With many parents coming along to support their schools there was a great atmosphere as the young boys and girls pitted their skills against one another to decide the outcome in the range of events.

Ben O’Kane from St Joseph’s Dunloy was the winner of the P7 individual event when he beat the luckless Joseph McLaughlin of St Mary’s Cushendall in a sudden death shoot-out. Both boys had finished with 26 points and it appeared there would be no separating them in the shoot-out either until Joseph’s shot came back off the inside of the upright and dropped on the wrong side of the crossbar. Ben needed to score his next free to claim the title and with the rest of the schools looking on he took aim and delivered the winning score.
Anna McKillop of St Anne’s Corkey won the P7 Girls event with a top display of skill. The P6 crown was captured by Naimh McNeill of St Ciaran’s Cushendun while the P5 title went to Meadhbh Graham of St Patrick’s Glenariff.
Aidan Campbell of Glenann PS won the P6 boys while the P5 Boys winners was Nicholas McLaughlin of St Mary’s Cushendall.
