Darren Hamill’s good form continuted against Carryduff

Football took centre stage this week but there were also three hurling matches played and a couple in particular deserve a mention.
Top of the table Carryduff travelled to Feystown to take on Glenram but came away empty handed as Shane O’Neill’s won by 1-19 to 1-10. The Glenarm side have been hurling well in recent weeks and have been unlucky on a few occasions not to get results. I covered their game last week against Lamh Dhearg and they played some great hurling, but conceded three very sloppy goals and that obviously cost them. Last year’s county minor Daniel Black was superb in that game, and he carried that form through to the Carryduff game where he done a lot of scoring from frees, and from play.
Darren Hamill is back in fine form again after a long injury lay off and he hurled well again against the Down men, getting the side’s goal. Dylan McLaughlin was another one who showed well as this win lifts them to seventh place in the table. There is great disparity in the number of games each side has played in this competition with Carryduff having now played eleven, while St Paul’s and Creggan have only played six. Creggan started their campaign poorly but you would still fancy them to be in the mix near the business end of the season along with Carryduff, Sarsfields, and Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh.

In the other game played in Division 3&4 on Wednesday evening Naomh Colm Cille won their first match of the season when they beat Loch Mór Dál gCais in the basement battle by 7-16 to 0-4.
The one game played in Division 1 of the hurling league saw Loughgiel record their second win in three days over struggling Ballycastle. Things are not going good for the ‘Town’ at the minute and they will hope to get some of their players back, not only for the championship but for the remainder of the league where relegation is now a distinct possibility. The win lifts the Shamrocks to within a point of league leaders Dunloy, though they have played a game more but there are two distinct groups forming in the table with Dunloy, Loughgiel, Cushendall and Ballycran breaking clear of the rest.
