Antrim Ladies Division 1:
St Ergnats 1-15, St Galls 3-09
St Ergnats hosted St Galls on Monday evening and after a win on the reverse fixture earlier in the year the Belfast side were out for the win.
St Galls started well with two unanswered points from play before the Moneyglass side dropped Sinead Murphy into a sweeping role to strengthen the home defence. A free on the 14 yard line for centre half forward Eimear Gallagher gave the visitors their third score. Moneyglass finally answered back 7 minutes into the half after Eleanor Mallon won the kickout, working the ball into the corner for Orlaith Prenter to finish over the bar. St Galls made a quick response with a well worked interception in the middle of the field and quick pass to Hannah Cosgrove who got the first goal of the game. Two more points came from Moneyglass’s Prenter and Sarah McCann which took the deficit down to three points.
A quick free from Danielle Duffin to Orlaith Prenter with Aine Devlin bursting through the middle of the pitch saw three in a row for the home side. Moneyglass were reduced to 14 players 15 minutes into the first half after a high tackle by defender Gemma Laverty which got her sin binned for 10 minutes. The free kick was put wide by Eimear “Gaga” followed by a wide at the Chapel end of the pitch for St Ergnats. As the rain continued to fall making playing conditions difficult Claire Cosgrove took advantage of a slip up from Sarah Louise Duffin and pointed another for the Belfast side. St Galls failed to make full use of the player advantage as Moneyglass score two from Prenter and midfielder Laura McCann. Laverty returned to the game and the half finished with another “Gaga” point from play, leaving it all to play for in the second half.
The home side had a shuffle a half time and Aimee McAtamney replaced Alicia McAuley. It was Moneyglass who got the second half proceedings off to a quick start, after winning the throw in Teresa Scullion passed the ball to now corner forward Orlaith Prenter who took a brilliant point at a difficult angle.
Things started to get a little hot and heavy and after a Moneyglass free fell short into the square St Galls No. 19 dramatically fouled Sarah McCann, the referee showed yellow and a penalty for Moneyglass taken by Orlaith Prenter was netted effortlessly. With a man down St Galls found it hard to penetrate the Moneyglass defence and all but one of several St Galls frees on the 14 yard line were put wide.
The teams were levelled up again as Orla McCrory replaced the sin binned Galls player, McCrory found herself in on the action quickly and a pass to Claire Cosgrove made its way between the posts. Moneyglass made full use of their substitution at the other end of the pitch, Aimee sent 2 over the bar in quick succession; the response again from St Galls was good as undoubtedly their most influential player Gallagher made an excellent run through several defenders to find the back of the home net. Moneyglass were on target with another four points before switching Sarah McCann for Aine Scullin. Great defending from St Ergnats Christine McCann and Sinead Murphy kept the St Galls attempts at scoring wide and a super block from Gemma Laverty on the 14 yard line denied St Galls yet again, the counter attack this time saw Aine Devlin split the posts. Two more Prenter points left it a 2 point lead for the home side, the visitors however weren’t finished and a well worked passage of play from defence to full forward Cosgrove who netted it in the bottom corner. It was top scorer Orlaith Prenter who got final say however with a point to leave the game all square at full time.
