Tir Na nOg Claim U16 B Hurling Title
Tir Na nOg Randalstown claimed the U16 B Hurling League title at Mallusk on Monday night when they inflicted a heavy defeat on one of their nearest rivals, Loch Mor Dal gCais and in doing so avenged a defeat to the same opposition in this year’s Feis Cup final.
The Whitehill lads have been simply unstoppable this year and took a big step to the title last week when defeating previously unbeaten Shane O’Neill’s Glenarm in a titanic struggle at Whitehill by 3-11 to 2-12in one of the best games of hurling in this year’s U16B League.
Loch Mor Dal gCais were the only side left with a realistic chance of challenging the Randalstown Blues for the title when they met at Mallusk in what was to be the final game of the league and were expected to provide a real challenge for the Whitehill side. It never materialised however as Tir Na nOg ran out convincing 4-17 to 1-1 winners.
This win sees Tir Na nOg finish on 18 points from 9 starts while an excellent Shane O’Neill’s finish second on 16 points from 9 starts and Loch Mor Dal gCais in a very creditable third place on 14 points from 9 starts, their only other loss a one point defeat at Shane O’Neill’s.
