Loughgiel eased their way to the final of the McCaughan Cup when they beat Glenariffe in Tuesday evening’s semi-final at Fr Healy Park. Loughgiel were dominant from the start and had the game more or less won after just six minutes three goals in two minutes from Conor Christie, Carlin Coyle and Cahir McGrath had the Shamrocks 3-2 to 0-0 ahead. Glenariffe got going with a goal from Daniel ‘Ding’ O’Boyle which was quickly followed by a point from James Haughey, the first of four the centre forward was to hit in the first half, but Loughgiel were unstoppable as they raced to a 4-13 to a 1-6 half time lead.

The second half saw the pattern continue as Loughgiel hit the first five points through Cahir McGrath, Liam McKillop, Cowboy McFadden (2) and Carlin Coyle. James Haughey grabbed Glenariffe’s only score of the second half after thirty eight minutes and despite introducing a series of subs Loughgiel kept getting stronger as they booked a final place against either Armoy or Carey, who play the other semi-final on Thursday evening.
