Glenarm recorded their first win of the season when they beat Gort na Mona in Sunday’s All Country Hurling League Division 3 game at Feystown. This was the first meeting of these two teams since last years’ Junior Hurling Championship Final in Armoy. On that occasion it was the Belfast team’s day, but this time around the Glenarm men came out on top to collect two very valuable league points.

Ciaran Mulvenna opened the scoring for the hosts on nine minutes but the Gorts equalised sixty seconds later. That is the way it stayed for a further ten minutes, when Daniel Black grabbed his first point of three in a row to give his team an early cushion. The visitors then hit three of their own to bring them back on terms, but a well taken point from Conal Ward for Glenarm put them a point ahead again. Minutes later a probing run by Dylan McLaughlin created an opening and when he hand passed to Brendan McDermott the forward fired the ball to the net to give his team a 1-5 to 0-4 lead at the break.

Points were traded on the restart, until on 17 minutes Glenarm full forward Barry Hamill broke free from his marker to shoot low to the Gorts net. The visitors soon replied with a goal of their own by Christopher McErlaine to leave just a goal between them and the game looked like it could go either way. The final eight minutes were frantic, but it was the hosts who were more steadfast, and a second goal for man-of-the-match Barry Hamill sealed a deserved victory.
