Faughs in crusie control

All County Hurling League Division 3

Carey Faughs 6-21 Carryduff 0-10

Carey Faughs ran up a big score as they overpowered visitors Carryduff in Wednesday evening’s Division 3 game in Ballyvoy. The visitors hit the opening score through a Sean O’Callaghan free but two inside thirty seconds from Paddy Butler and one apiece from Conor McBride and Shay Hunter had them 4-1 clear after five minutes. Two quick scores from Gareth Lynch and O’Callaghan left just a point between the teams after nine minutes but a Fiachra McVeigh goal on ten minutes turned the game firmly in the Faughs favour and five points on the trot in the next four minutes (three of them stemming from short puc-outs gone wrong by the visitors) put them in command. O’Callaghan pulled a couple back from free for Carryduff and Lynch got his second from play, but Carey were now in complete control and a series of excellently taken points put them 1-13 to 0-6 ahead by half time.4

It didn’t get any easier for Carryduff in the second half as the Faughs kept piling on the scores, and their second goal came in the 36th minute when midfielder Caolan McCaughan fired home. The introduction of a few subs did not dim the Carey fire and a late surge of goals from Daniel Martin, Patrick Gillan and Martin Hunter saw them home in style
