On Saturday afternoon St Mary’s GAC, Aghagallon held their Duck Derby fundraiser at The Gate Inn. The family fun day had lots to do with bouncy castles, BBQ and games and was attended by NIFRS which was a big attraction for the children. The main event of the day got underway with the ducks being released from the jetty and a strong tail wind gave them an initial surge.
As they moved into open waters the “paddling” began to spread out and the crowd cheered their ducks on. Another change in wind direction drove them all off track and they grouped along the retaining float. A little interference from some jet ski propulsion got them moving again, some taking advantage and escaping into the open waters but the majority making a dash for the finish line. The first three home were numbers 424, 350 and 81 and the winners were,
