Ports too strong for brave St. Enda’s

Senior Reserve Football Cup

Casements 4-17  St. Enda’s 2-10

Casement’s, Portglenone proved too strong for a battling but outclassed St. Enda’s at Kelly Park this evening. The Gormley side arrived with just 16 players with Stevie Dowds and Kevin Parke providing a bit of experience in an otherwise inexperienced St. Enda’s side.

It was the much more experienced home side who set a marker during the opening half where they dominated and they had matters more or less wrapped up at half time when they led by 2-10 to 0-1.

Peter Duffin, Aidan McAleese, Michael ‘Gooch’ Kelly and James McLarnon led the way with some delightful points and goals from Duffin and Kelly put their side very much in the driving seat with St. Enda’s sole first half effort coming from the impressive Fiontan O’Connor.

After the break the visitors certainly improved and while never really looking like getting back in contention they certainly made a game of it as they began to turn good possession into scores.

Fiontan O’Connor led the way with a couple of early points and Conor Maxwell added another as they grew in confidence but they were rocked back in their tracks by a Michael Kelly goal in the 6th minute, his second of the game.

James McLarnon, Aidan McAleese and Ciaran McKenna added point in response to a flurry from O’Connor, O’Neill, Curran and Carvill and when Peter Duffin added his second and his side’s fourth goal in the 55th minute it was done and dusted.

To their credit St. Enda’s kept going to the end with Anto Curran finding the net and Michael Kennedy adding a second in injury time to put a more respectable look on the scoreline.

Adrian McKeever, Aidan Kearney, Michael Kelly, Peter Duffin, Cory McLaughlin and James McLarnon were the best performers in an excellent Portglenone side while Stevie Dowds, Kevin Parke, Tiarnan Donnelly, Conor Maxwell, Fiontan O’Connor, Ronan O’Neill, Anto Curran and Michael Kennedy were best for St. Enda’s.
