Creggan in control

Senior Reserve Football Cup

Creggan 1-12 Rossa 0-5

Creggan beat visitors Rossa in Friday evening’s Senior Reserve Cup Football round-robin game to movel level with the Shaw’s Road men in joint second place in the table at the half way stage of the campaign.

In a game that probably won’t make the highlights reel when the 2020 season is reviewed, the home side were always that bit better. They were able to take their scores a lot easier than the visitors who had a great tendency to overplay the ball, when a more direct route to goal would have paid greater dividends

Creggan’s Killian Burke

Tiernan Burke put Creggan ahead with a point in the fifth minute before Rossa drew level with a point from their most productive forward Matthew Mallon on nine minutes. Three in a row for Creggan from Leigh Martin put them 4-1 clear at the first half water break and they went 5-1 up just after the restart. Rossa closed the gap with two points from Matthew Mallon and Conal McDonald to leave just two between the sides but Creggan finished the half strongly with points from Tiernan Burke and Matthew Rodgers to lead 0-7 to 0-3 at the half-time whistle.

When Creggan started the second half with four points on the trot there was only going to be one winner and though Conal McDonald pulled a point back for the visitors a goal from Patrick McAuley ended the contest.
