Tir na nÓg celebrate as they receive the Division 2 trophy

Antrim Football League Division 2

Tir na nÓg 0-13 Davitt’s 1-6

Division 2 champions Tir na nÓg picked up the league trophy on Wednesday evening at Whitehill after their final game of the season against Davitt’s. With the league already won, and with a hurling league quarter final coming up on Sunday against Glenariffe the Tir na nÓg management fielded a much different team than usual, but they still managed to gain a win against Davitt’s.

The home team led by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time, the majority of the scores coming from Darragh Fagan. Davitt’s came back with a goal in the second half but the boys in blue still did enough to get over the line to win by 0-13 to 1-6.

After the game Jim McVeigh, father of the late Tir na nÓg stalwart James McVeigh, presented the cup to team captain Barry McCormick as fans and team management joined in the celebrations, many of them having their photo taken with the coveted silverware.
