Tir na nOg, Randalstown proved too strong for St. Joseph’s Glenavy in this U21 Football Championship opener at Whitehill on Sunday. The Randalstwon side had this one wrapped up at the half way stage when they led the visitors 1-12 to 0-3 with Darragh Fegan leading the way and finishing top scorer with 1-6.
In a slick moving Tir na nOg attack Ciaran Dobbin and Aaron McNeilly proved a handful with their pace and movement while Eamon Og McAllister was prominent from both play and frees. McAllister included a ‘45’ in his repertoire of scores as the Blues dictated matter from start to finish.
The impressive Fergal Henry battled hard for the Chapel Hill side and finished with 0-5 (0-4 frees) to his credit with Callum Crighton getting the Glenavy goal but Tir na nOg went on to add 5-6 in the second half with Aaron McNeilly 2-2, Stephen Carey, Emmet Murray and Dean Wright all finding the net.
This was a polished display by the Whitehill side and with quite a number of seniors in their side they look capable of being amongst the challengers when the U21 championship reaches the business end of the competition though they will come up against stiffer opposition as the championship progresses.
