Tir na nÓg beat Davitt’s to stay on course for semis

Davitt’s 0-10 Tir na nÓg 2-19

Tir na nOg took a step nearer qualification of the semi-finals of the Intermediate Football Championship when they travelled to Belfast and beat Davitt’s.  

The Randalstown men were quick out of the traps and after ten minutes they led by by 1-5 to 0-2, Kevin Sheerin getting a goal and a point, Aaron McNeilly getting 2 while Darren McCormick and Sean Duffin got the other two. Two more from Aaron McNeilly frees and one from play by Sean Duffin stretched the lead to 1-9 to 0-3 by the 21st minute and though Davitts came back with four more points before half time a Daniel Martin goal in the 28th minute saw the boys in blue take a 2-12 to 0-8 half time lead.

After the restart Tir na nÓg pushed on, and though the scoring dried up somewhat in the second half the Whitehill men ended up winning by 2-19 to 0-10

The win keeps them in second place, ahead of Con Magees on point difference and with a win over the Glenravel side into the bargain. It will all come down to the final round of games in two weeks’ time when Tir na nOg have a home game against Ardoyne while the other two contenders All Saints and Con Magees face each other.
