Tir na nOg go tops but still a way to go

AC U17 Football League Division 3

Tir na nOg 1-8 Naomh Comhghall 1-7

Tir na nOg climbed above Naomh Comhghall at the top of division 3 of the All County U17 Football league following this narrow victory over their nearest rivals at Whitehill on Sunday morning. The home side looked to have matters tied up at half time when they led 1-6 to 0-3 but the Antrim town side came storming back after the break and will feel they should have had something from this game.

Dominykas Budrikas got the Tir na nOg goal and Joe McCormick was in excellent form for the home side and finished the game with 0-5 while their other points came from Paul McCloskey, Callum English and Caolan Hughes.

After the break it was Naomh Comhghall who took control with Tiernan Hughes finding the net to ignite a comeback and Ryan Clarke, Liam Phinn and Diarmuid Hannon all weighed in with points as the visitors closed the gap to the minimum.

Naomh Comhghall had a late appeal for a penalty waved away but despite a concerted effort the score they needed to draw level just wouldn’t come.

This win sees Tir na nOg top the table on 18 points from 11 starts while Naomh Comhghall sit just two behind them but with a game in hand. Kickham’s Ardoyne and St. Mary’s Rasharkin are handily placed should either of the top two slip and with at least four rounds of games still to play nothing has been decided at this stage of the season.
