Gort na Móna 1-8 Con Magees Glenravel 4-12

Although the scoreboard recorded a 13 point Glenravel win in Sunday night’s W.S Dennison Ltd Intermediate Championship game, that doesn’t reflect a true picture of the whole game.
The Con Magees girls lead for most of the game after an opening minute Maeve Mulholland goal. There was never much to separate the teams in the opening half and by half time a solitary point was the gap between the sides. In reply to Mulholland’s major, Gorts leading scorer Ciara Maguire traded points with Glenravel’s Clodagh McPeake while Blaithin Nic Caithail & McPeake again kept the scoreboard ticking over with points-a-piece. Glenravel’s industrious Aimee Traynor was rewarded with a point while after an Enwright minor, Gort na Móna’s Maguire was quick to react to a wayward pass in the Glenravel defence to pick off a goal on the rebound after Caitlin McKeown in the Glenravel goal had produced a great save to deny her initial shot. Gort na Móna were now in the lead but that was short lived as Glenravel’s Traynor pounced to raise their second green flag. Traynor & midfielder Fryers traded points late in the half before Maguire closed her 1st half account to leave referee Colm McDonald record the half time score Gort na Mona 1-6 to Glenravel 2-4
A Maguire free 3 mins after the break brought parity to the scoreboard but this seemed to galvanise the Glens girls who went on, admittedly with the benefit of a slight breeze, to record a further 2-8 against another a solitary Maguire free.
Entertaining fayre over the hour. Up next Sunday in the Antrim LGFA Intermediate Championship, Gort na Móna travel to Glenavy while Con Magees host St Galls
