Henry goal swings it Glenavy’s way

ACFL Division 2

St. Joseph’s 1-7 Gort na Mona 0-8

St. Joseph’s Glenavy recovered from a poor performance in Ballymena, a week earlier to gain two useful points from the visit of previously unbeaten Gort na mona to Chapel Hill on Wednesday night.

In far from perfect conditions nothing separated the sides during a dour and largely uneventful opening half with points from Paddy Gallagher and Ciaran Looney for the home side leaving them on level terms at 0-2 apiece at Half time.

The second half saw matters liven up and it was visitors Gort na Mona who looked like extending their unbeaten record when they led 0-8 to 0-6 as the clock ticked down towards conclusion.

It was St. Joseph’s Glenavy who finished strongly however and Matthew Lawlor received a short free kick before sending a long ball into Fergall Henry who hammered it to the net through a crowded goalmouth.

Boyed by Henry’s finish the home side went on the attack again and Malachi Doherty fired over a fine point to seal his side’s second victory and put them level on points with Wednesday night’s visitors on 6 points with the Gorts Having played a game less.
