Casement’s lead the way after Round 5 win over St. Ergnat’s

ACFL Division 1

Portglenone 0-14 Moneyglass 0-10

It was visitors Moneyglass who made the brighter start to this ACFL Division 1 encounter, switched to Kelly Park, and they might have had a goal in their first attack but a decent chance went a begging.

The visitors continued to make the early running and missed a couple of chances to open their account as Portglenone took a time to settle and Aidan McErlain pointed St. Ergnat’s into an early lead before the home side came back with points from Michael Hagan and Niall Delargy to take the lead.

At this stage Portglenone began to dominate with Niall Delargy and Niall McKeever getting on top at mid-field and Oisin Doherty finding his scoring touch as the Casements hit three on the bounce to move 0-5 to 0-2 ahead after 20 minutes.

Moneyglass were battling hard to get back into contention and Dermot McErlain pointed a ‘45’ to give them a lift but Portglenone replied through the impressive Oisin Doherty 0-2 as they moved into a five point lead.

Moneyglass came back strongly in the second quarter however with Dermott McErlain hitting a great point and Colum Duffin weighing in with a couple of scores and another from Tiernan McCormick to close the gap to two at half time and leave it all still to play for in the second half

The second half followed in a similar pattern to the first with St. Ergnat’s making the early running but unable to add to their total. It was still 0-11 to 0-7 for the Casements after a low scoring third quarter and the visitors cause wasn’t helped when they had a man dismissed.

Casements took advantage to move 0-13 to 0-7 ahead after 20 minutes with Oisin Doherty, Odhran McGarry and Conall Delargy to the fore and they looked to be coasting to victory but St. Ergnat’s battled to the end and outscored their opponents three to one to leave the final score 0-14 to 0-10.

This win sees the Casement’s maintain their 100% record to lead the table with 10 points from 5 starts, two in front of St. John’s who are on 8 points from 5 starts but Moneyglass can be satisfied with their start to their first season in division 1 and by many aspects of Friday night’s performance, if not by the result.
