Three wins on the trot for Erin’s Own

ACFL Division One

Rossa2-12 Cargin 4-13

Erin’s Own, Cargin made it 3 wins from 3 starts following a trip to Belfast to face O’Donovan Rossa. The visitors dominated the early exchanges but despite holding a six point lead nearing the break, Ronan Devlin’s charges made late concessions and found themselves in arrears at the end of the opening period.

The home side played second fiddle to their visitors in the opening quarter but dominated the last ten minutes and a goal from Corey Walsh in the 28th minute was followed by three late points to ensure a 1-08 to 1-06 interval advantage.

Cargin started with the breeze in their favour for the second half and early points from the Shivers brothers Tom and Pat had prompted quick reply from the fleet footed Corey Walsh who found the net again for the second time shortly after to halt the visitors in their tracks.

In the event Cargin soon regained the advantage and after a smart build up which deserved a score, Jamie Gribbin was denied by the wood work but Pat Shivers was on hand to return post haste to the net.

Gribbin did find the net in their next attack when a smart kick out by replacement net-minder Shea Laverty aided onwards by Pat Shivers saw him finish in style to ensure a 3-09 to 2-08 lead.

The Toome men aided by the elements stood strong in defence and they needed to be as the home side remained in contention and were still in there fighting for the points.

Pat Shiver continued to look dangerous and he added back to back points and a Tomas McCann two pointer following a long range point moved Cargin 3-11 to 2-08 ahead

Rossa were not about to throw in the towel however but their visitors nipped further ahead when John Carron fetched delivery from Gerard McCann to despatch between the posts to increase their lead.

Rossa continued to fight and Conal McDonald’s long range delivery split the posts.

The visitors responded with Sean Og O’Neill’s clearance and James Laverty’s delivery opening the door for late replacement David Johnston to fire to the back of the net.

Hugh Mc Gettigan’s side fought to the end and the impressive Corey Walsh added a further point to his tally in the latter stages with a late Stephen Beatty effort concluding the scoring.
