Naomh Treasa secured 2 points in their 6th round clash with Naomh Éanna at Pairc Mhic Dhomhnaill/ Úi Dhoctairtigh on Wednesday evening. Both teams started well trading scores quickly after throw-in. Naomh Treasa opened the scoring through the efforts of Eoghan Hamill and Jay Mallon however Naomh Éanna quickly responded with 2 points and a two pointer to pull ahead 0-02 to 0-04.
The Hightown side kept the score board ticking over with a further point added shortly after. Naomh Treasa worked hard in defence the entire game, turning over a Naomh Éanna play and transitioning quickly into their own attack.
The result of which saw Naomh Treasa’s Eoghan Hamill pulled down in the box and a penalty awarded to the Glen Road side. Jay Mallon stepped up to convert making the game all square at 1-02 to 0-5.
Both teams played with pace, transitioning at speed and moving the ball quickly much to the delight of their supporters. Naomh Treasa made the most of this with Eoghan Hamill moving at speed to put the leather in the back of the net after the ball spilled in front of the Naomh Éanna goal.
Naomh Éanna continued to apply the pressure, punishing Naomh Treasa with a two-pointer from a short kick out gone astray and added a further point in quick succession thereafter. Naomh Treasa finished the first half strong with points from Darren McCann, Eoghan Hamill and Jay and Conor Mallon to go into half time with a 4-point lead, 2-06 to 0-08.
The second half mirrored the first, with Naomh Treasa opening their scoring account with a two-pointer free. The sides continued to trade scores, with the Glen Road side maintaining a lead throughout.
Both managers made use of their benches on what was a warm night. With the subs adding to the final totals for both teams, Austin Drum had the final say on the night for Naomh Treasa with a great left-footed effort. An enjoyable game of football played at great pace with Naomh Treasa deservedly coming away with the win.
