St Malachy’s opened the scoring on the 1st minute from wing half back Gerard McKenna. Jude Burke added another point for St Malachys after 4 minutes. St Mary’s responded well with two goals from Criostoir McCabe. St Malachy’s got their first goal a minute later from Aidan Johnston. St Malachy’s Goalkeeper Paddy McCullogh made an excellent save after 8 minutes which was the first of many fine saves from the St Malachy’s number 1.

St Mary’s sharpshooter Criostoir McCabe got his first point of the game for St Mary’s after 11 minutes followed by another 2 goals for the Glen Road side from Matthew O’Neill. Criostoir McCabe was added another point for St Mary’s. St Malachy’s went on the attack however played a high ball into the square which was beautifully caught by St Mary’s Goalkeeper Dara Gault who then moved the ball well out of his defence with a couple give and go’s which led to a goal by Padraig Kelly.

St Malachy’s came back on the attack with Aidan Johnston through one on one only for Dara Gault to pull off another great save to his right hand side. Evan Matthews had a super game for St Mary’s with his link up play from half back which led to a third goal by Matthew O’Neill. St Malachy’s Goalkeeper Paddy McCullogh made a fantastic save after 20 minutes which led to a goal for the Antrim road side scored by centre half back Cillian Baker.

St Malachy’s Goalkeeper Paddy McCullogh continued his great form in the second half by pulling off a double save. St Mary’s midfielder Gerard Delaney scored his first point of the game which was quickly cancelled out with a point from St Malachy’s full forward Aidan Johnston from a free kick. The second half was very balanced with both teams taking their chances. St Malachy’s half forward Jude Burke scored a well-deserved goal however St Mary’s finished the game with the final two scores by Gerard Delaney and Odhrán Marley. 

Great game of football with fine scores from both teams. Congratulations to St Mary’s who were deserving winners on the day. Thanks to referee, Kevin Parke and all the teachers from both schools for the great work they are doing.
