It was with shock and sadness that we at the Saffron Gael learned this week of the death of Casement’s GAC stalwart, Seamus McCarry who passed away in hospital following a short illness.
I attended St. Patrick’s College in Ballymena with Seamus over 60 years ago but really got to know him when I started covering games in Portglenone and would regard him as one of the real characters I’ve met within GAA circles.
Journeys to Kelly Park to cover games would see me being approached by the smiling Seamus before I could get my camera and other equipment out of the boot of the car with the request “Would you like to buy a Lotto ticket”.
A former Loughgiel man who moved to Portglenone after his marriage, he soon became part of the fabric of the Casement’s club and served them with distinction over many years.
His son Martin of course represented Antrim footballers with distinction for many years and to Martin and the Graham and McCarry family we at the Saffron Gael extent our deepest sympathy.
Seamus remains will leave his home at 6 Hilton Park, Portglenone at 10.20am for 11.00am Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Parish Church.
Our Lady of the Gael pray for him!
