One Night  –  One Orchestra

50 Years of Comhaltas in Antrim

The County Antrim Board of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann is proud to announce a landmark cultural event to celebrate its 50th anniversary: a special performance of Ómós na nUltach, a commissioned suite of music honouring the rich cultural heritage of Ulster.

The event will take place on Saturday 11 October 2025 at St Joseph’s Parish Centre, Dunloy, and will feature the Ulster Youth Folk Orchestra under the direction of acclaimed composer and harpist Michael Rooney with young musicians from across the province of Ulster.

The Ulster Folk Youth Orchestra

Ómós na nUltach is a musical journey through Ulster’s history—from the arrival of St Patrick and the Flight of the Earls to the legacy of emigration, industry, and the region’s unique singing and fiddling traditions. The performance will include live narration and projected visuals, creating an immersive experience for audiences of all generations.

“This event is a celebration of our shared heritage and the vibrant tradition of Irish music in Antrim and Ulster” said Eamonn Graham, the Chair of the County Antrim Board. “We’re thrilled to bring together communities from across the province for this special night.”

In addition to the musical programme, the evening will have a song or two from our Fear an Tí Len Graham and will also include the presentation of Gradam na hÉigse awards to long-serving volunteers from our local Comhaltas branches. These individuals have given tirelessly of their time, in support of traditional music and culture in the Branches of Portglenone, Dunloy, Ballycastle, Rasharkin, Loughbeg, Glens of Antrim, Lough Lao and Antrim Town. The awards will be presented by Attracta Ní Bhradaigh, Uachtarán of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
