An injury time goal from team captain Shay Casey saw the Shamrocks secure the league points in Ballygalget

All County Hurling League Division 1

Ballygalget 1-16 Loughgiel 2-14

An injury time goal from team captain Shay Casey earned his team victory over Ballygalget in today’s All County Hurling League Division 1 game on the Ards Peninsula and moved the Shamrocks to the top of the league table. Loughgiel travelled down the Ards for a 1pm game and after making a good start they appeared to be in control of the game when Dan McCloskey goaled in the eleventh minute. With Barney McAuley and Shay Casey firing over the frees they built up a good lead, but ‘Magic’ Johnston was keeping Ballygalget in touch with some great points from frees and when the big man found the back of the back of the Shamrocks net they were back in contention.

With the breeze behind them in the second half Ballygalget clawed their way back as Johnton kept picking off the scores, one massive free in particular stands out as he split the Shamrocks posts from inside his own 45 metre line. When the Down men went two points clear going into injury time they looked winners all the way, but in injury time Barney McAuley dropped a long free in around the square and Casey rose to flick the ball the Ballygalget net and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Team manager Johnny Campbell was forthright and honest after the game and admitted they his side were a bit lucky to gain both points but he praised his team for fighting to the end and grabbing the win.
