All County Hurling League Division 3
Cushendun 3-22 Glenarm 3-9
In a repeat of last season’s Junior Hurling final Cushendun got the better of Glenarm in Sunday’s opening game in Division 3, running out 13 point winners at the Rigs in Cushendun.
The Emmets were three to the good after seven minutes thanks to points from Duffin, McQuillan and Sharkey before the visitors raised their first flag through Dylan McLaughlin. It was to prove brief respite however as the home team came back with seven unanswered points with Conor McHugh, Loaf McNeill and Eoin McQuillan hitting two apiece and Tomas Scally grabbing one to put them in firm control. Glenarm pulled a couple back through O’Hara but Cushendun were in dominant form and by the half time whistle they had stretched their advantage to 0-18 to 0-3.
With the wind now at their back the visitors made a much better start to the second half and points for O’Hara (2) and Matthews and a goal from Kevin O’Boyle gave them some hope. However that hope was soon snuffed out as two goals inside a minute by David Kilgore swung the momentum back in the Emmet’s favour. Glenarm raised hopes again as Daniel Black and O’Hara grabbed goals midway through the second half but even though O’Hara added three more points and McLaughlin one the home side were always in control and points from Scally, Duffin and Kilgore saw them safely home.
