Ahoghill win in extra time

North Antrim Minor B Hurling final

Ahoghill 4-17 Glenarm 3-11 (AET)

Ahoghill staged a great comeback to beat Glenarm by 4-17 to 3-11 in last Saturday’s North Antrim Minor B Hurling final in Glenariffe. Glenarm had the better of the early exchanges thanks to two early Sean O’Neill goals and a point from Nial McGarel but five points on the trot from Ahoghill corner forward Colla McDonnell helped reel them in and by half time they were only two adrift at 0-8 to 2-4.

Four points at the start of the second half from Nial McGarel, Ruairi Paul O’Mullan, Aidan Scullion and Ciaran Black had Glenram back in control, but Luke Mullan goaled for Ahoghill and McDonnell hit another point to leave just two between the sides.

Glenarm were three ahead with just ten minutes left for play but they failed to add another score and points from Luke Mulholland, Shay Madden and Harry O’Donnell brought the game to extra time.

The first period of extra time more or less decided the contest as Ahoghill got on top and boosted by a Shay Madden goal they led by 8 at the break. The second period of extra time saw just one more score added and it was Ahoghill who got it to seal the win and claim the trophy.
