Strong start for Oisins

Under 15 Hurling League

Oisins 4-18 Cushendall 1-5

Glenariffe Oisins made a good start to the Under 15 Hurling League when they beat neighbours Ruairi Og Cushendall in their opening game at Waterfoot on Thursday evening. The Oisins dominated from the start and had the game all but sown up by half time when they led by 4-10 to 0-3. The second half was very similar but the Cushendall defence stemmed the flow of goals, and got one themselves but the Oisins were always in control as they added a further 8 points.

A point from Phelim Ward and two goals from Orrin O’Connor got the Oisins off to a good start  before Nicholas McNaughton opened Cushendall’s account in the sixth minute. Michael Furey got the Oisins first goal a minute later, and though the Ruairis responded with two points from Fiontan Bradley and Callagh Mooney in the eleventh minute, there rest of the half was all one way traffic and by half time they the game sown up as they added a goal and nine points without reply the lead by nineteen at the break.

Phelim Ward and Calum McIlwaine added two more just after the restart, but Cushendall hit back with a goal from Thomas McLaughlin. However they would raise just three more flags in the last quareter while Glenariffe kept the scoreboard ticking over as Orrin O’Connor, Joseph Leech and John Scullion picked off points
