A speedy start to Monday evening’s Senior Reserve League was delivered in Loughgiel’s favour as a succession of points from Michael McGarry, Paul Boyle and Cormac McFadden gave the Shamrocks early control.
Despite the efforts of Christy McNaughton and Dominic Delargy, Caolan Blair and Conor Henry denied Cushendall’s efforts of garnering points, and by the first water break, Loughgiel were ahead with 10 points to nil. Ryan McKee had played superbly while facing a difficult challenge offered by Cushendall’s players. Christy McNaughton however launched Cushendall’s counter attack and scored their first point, bringing the half time score to 0-15 to 0-1.
It was all uphill for the Ruairis at this stage and to be fair the second half saw them produce much more competitive, display. The majority of their scores came from frees by Christy McNaughton. Caolan Blair had played with great skill and scored a point for the home side, despite the close attentions of Fiontan McQuillan. Mark Emerson and Francis McCurry battled to bring the visitors back into the game but Loughgiel’s dynamic start had left the Ruairis just too much to do
