Antrim Minor Camogs All Ireland A campaign came to an end at Jordanstown on Sunday when they were beaten by 2-12 to 0-10 by and excellent Tipperary side who made it three win out of three to top their group and secure a quarter final spot.
Playing with the wind behind them in the first half the Tipperary girls were quick out of the traps and left-half forward Kate Ralph pointed them ahead, before full forward Celine Guinan added 1-1 to put them five clear.
Antrim corner forward Clodagh McPeake opened the Saffons’ account and when centre forward Evanne Martin added one from a free things were looking more promising for the home side, but Tipperary came back strongly and four in a row from Guinan, Orla O’Brien (2) and Jennifer Heffernan stretched their lead to seven. Team captain Cassie McArthur pulled a point back for Antrim, but the visitors responded with points from Emma Darcy and their excellent midfielder Orla O’Brien to lead by eight at half time.
With the elements in their favour in the second half Antrim made a great start and had the first three points with one from Evanne Martin and two from full forward Cassie McArthur. With just five between the sides at this stage things looked more promising for the girls in Saffron, but points from Tipperary substitutes Kate Fermcombe and Aoife Dwyer, and another from full forward Celine Guinan put them back in firm control.
Two points from Eavanne Martin gave Antrim some hope, but the door was firmly slammed in their face when Aoife Dwyer fired home Tipperary’s second goal. Ellen McIntosh added another point for Antrim but it was a case of too little too late as Tipp advanced the knock-out stages.
