Cushendall make good use of the wind

Antrim Hurling League – Division 1

Cushendall: 2-21(27)  Ballycastle: 1-11(14)

A totally dominant second half by Cushendall saw them beat Ballycastle in Wednesday evening’s Division 1 League game at Paric Mhuir, Cushendall. When Ballycastle had the wind at their back in the first half they coped well enough and lead by three points at the break, but after the change of ends they managed just one point, while Cushendall made full use of the elements to win with ease.

With the use of the wind blowing straight up the pitch, into the Ardmoyle end, Ballycaslte went two clear in as many minutes as Dairmaid McShane and Ciaran Butler sent over points, but Cushendall hit back with a goal from corner forward Cormac McClafferty to take the lead. The remainder of the half was score for score as Conor Boyd, Ciaran Butler, Lorcan Donnelly, Joe McToal, Tiernan Smyth  and Diarmaid McShane all picked off scores for the Town, while Paddy McGill, Fred McCurry, Cormac McClafferty and Dominic Delargy replied for the home side and it took a McShane goal just before the break to give the visitors a three point half time lead.

When McShane hit another point early in the second half it appeared Ballycastle might hang in there and make a game of it, but incredibly it was to be their only score as Cushendall used the elements to good effect as Christy McNaughton, Andrew Delargy, Fred McCurry, Fergus McCambridge and Paddy McGill picked of the points, while Delargy got his team’s second goal on the way to a convincing win
