McMullan Cup – Under 15 Hurling

Glenariffe/Glenravel 1-12 Ballycastle 2-7

Glenariffe-Glenravel booked their place in the final of the McMullan Cup when they beat Ballycastle by two points in Sunday’s semi-final in Glenariffe. The home team were leading by five points going into injury time when Ballycastle centre back Conor Donnelly pulled a goal back, but they held out to secure a place against Loughgiel.

Joseph McKay who top scored for Glenariffe-Glenravel in their McMullan Cup semi-final win over Ballycastle

Glenariffe-Glenravel had the better of things in the early stages and free taker Joe McKay put them ahead in the fourth minute. Canice McInotsh got the first goal of the game three minutes later and when both players added points they were 1-3 to 0-0 ahead after eleven minutes. Ballycastle got going with a point from a free by corner forward Cadhan Crawford, but two at the other end from frees by Joe McKay in the 15th and 18th minutes opened a seven point lead.

The home side held the upper hand for the remainder of the half and points from McKay and centre forward James Kearney put them eight clear, though Cadhan Crawford closed the gap to seven just before the break.

Ballycastle started the second half with points from Conor and Darragh Donnelly, and when the latter grabbed a goal from play the gap was down to just two. Glenariffe-Glenravel steadied the ship and the next 12 minutes saw both teams hit two points apiece, Joe McKay with the two for the home team, while Conor Donnelly and Cadhan Crawford were on target for Ballycastle.

Glenariffe-Glenravel eased the pressure when Joe McKay hit three unanswered points from frees to go five clear by the 59th minute, and though Conor Donnelly got a late goal tit wasn’t enough to catch their rivals, who had secured their place in the final.
