Fund raising event in memory of Darrly Heatley raised £8,170 for the heart charity C.R.Y.

This week Oonagh and the Heatley family handed over a cheque for £8,170 to the heart charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), proceeds of the highly successful Cycle/Walk/Run held in memory of Darryl Heatley at Tir na nÓg Randalstown on October 28th.

Tragically Darryl died suddenly in 2018, aged just 39, and as his death was Cardiac related his widow Oonagh and the Heatley family decided that CRY Screening would be a worthy recipient for the funds raised at the October event.

Darryl was a club member and former player of Tir na Óg GAC but also supported coaching in his neighbouring club Kickhams Creggan GAC. He was held in high esteem in the local community as was evidenced by the fantastic turn-out of over 500 at the fund raising event in his memory, which was held on what would have been his 40th birthday.

Oonagh and the Heatley/Kearney families wish to express their thanks to everyone who supported this initiative by either participating, donating money or their time by volunteering during the event.

C.R.Y. has confirmed that screening has been secured for the Tir na nÓg club for the 2020 season. Dates for these screening will be announced in due course.
