Cloney repel late Bredagh rally to remain unbeaten

ACHL Division 2

Bredagh 0-28 Cloney Gaels 2-25

Bredagh and Cloney Gaels served up a feast of point taking at Cherryvale on Saturday with both side displaying unerring accuracy but it was goals from James O’Connell and Colla McDonnell that decided the contest in the end to maintain the Ahoghill men’s great start to the season.

Bredagh started brightly with the opening 2 points but points from Colla McDonnell, Ronan Graham and Eamonn Brady saw the visitor’s edge ahead with only 4 minutes gone.

Diarmaid Graham added another before James O’Connell fired home Cloney Gael’s opening goal in the 7th minute as they dominated the opening exchanges and they would go on to build up a fairly healthy half time lead.

James O’Connell continued to lead the charge and added a further 0-5 for the visitors and Colla McDonnell contribute 1-2 in the opening half with his goal coming in the 25th minute.

It moved the Ahoghill side 2-14 to 0-11 ahead at the break, their other scores coming from Conor Crossey and Donal Graham and at this stage they looked to be heading for a comfortable victory.

Dan Kinney led the Bredagh first half scoring with four points and Dougan 0-3, Hanrahan, Blaney and Lavery were all on target.

The home side came more and more into it as the second half progressed and would add 17 points to their first half total but could not find a way past Aiden Graham in the Cloney goals as Ahoghill continued to keep their noses in front.

Kinney would add another five to bring his total to 0-9 for the evening and Blaney 0-4, Corry, Hogan and Guest kept the scoreboard rising but in the end Bredagh came up just short.

James O’Connell would add 0-6 in the second half to bring his total for the evening to 1-11 while Ronan Graham 0-3, Noah Friel and Colla McDonnell were the others on target for the visitors who were forced to repel a late rally from a sharp Bredagh side.
