Carey edge out Cloney for crucial win

Carey came out on top of this thrilling and hard fought contest against a Clooney side who won the previous encounter by a seventeen point margin. The Ahoghill men had the better of the first half exchanges and held a 1.12 to 2.6 advantage at the break with the brilliant James O’Connell helping himself to 1.7. The other Clooney men responded to O’Connell’s promptings as Donald Graham, David Scullion, Ronan Graham and P’J O’Connell all added to the scoreboard.  Carey’s two major scores kept the home side in touch, these coming from Paddy McBride and Conleth McKinley with points from Fiachra McVeigh, Caolan McCaughan,  Colm McBride,  Sean McLaughlin and two from James Black.

The second half had the sides level on four occasions,  again goals were  “on the menu ” with a rejuvinated home side now showing the momentum with Conleth McKinley and the hard working John McBride getting their goals, The ever reliable PJ O’Connel chipped in with two goals for the Ahoghill men to keep this “ding dong” affair ticking over. Clooneys only other marksman in this half was James O’Connell with three points. The Faughs responded in a superb final quarter with points from Sean McLaughlin,  Colm McBride,  James Black and two each from Conleth McKinley and Coalan McCaughan to give the home side a well deserved two point victory.
