Knock shock holders St Louis

Danske Bank Mageean Cup

OL&SP Knock 3-21 St Louis Ballymena 3-17

OUR Lady & St Patrick’s Knock pulled off a major shock in the Danske Bank Mageean Cup yesterday afternoon when they handed holders St Louis Ballymena their second defeat of the campaign at UU Jordanstown.

Knock put it up to Ballymena from the start with an early goal from Frank Kane. Although Fionntan Bradley responded with a superb goal, Sé Pucci found the net for Knock during the second quarter and they led by 2-13 to 1-12 at the break with most of the St Louis points coming from Loughgiel’s Jack McCloskey and the majority of Knock’s from Eoin Kelly.

Knock forged ahead during the third quarter with six unanswered points until Sean McDermott halted the run with Ballymena’s second goal.

Liam Blaney’s goal however put Knock 3-19 to 2-15 ahead with time running out and it left Connor O’Hara’s late strike for Ballymena a mere consolation score.

Knock will play Cross & Passion Ballycastle in the final game of Section B next Tuesday. Maghera and St Killian’s will complete the fixtures in Section A this (WEDNESDAY) afternoon when they meet in Glenravel (2pm).
