Div. 2 Camogie League
Dunloy 2-08 St. Johns 1-01
St. Johns travelled to Dunloy last night still awaiting the return of a number of key senior players and although beaten by a stronger side they can take encouragement from the performances of these young camógs who gave 100% effort throughout the game.
Erin Elliot got the home side off to a good start with two well struck points in the first few minutes before St. Johns Eimhear Costello took a point and a goal in quick succession, both from placed balls, to boost the visitors.
Dunloy forged ahead however and two points from Caitriona Maybin plus another brace from Elliot left them with a halftime lead of Dunloy 0-06 St. Johns 1-01 which could have been greater except for some excellent defending from seasoned campaigner Bridget Byrne. The Wexford legend was filling in at full back for the Johnnies after being forced from retirement by popular demand!
The second half saw Dunloy build on their lead with a strong performance and two fine goals from Lauren Elliot, only recently returned to camogie, and a couple of points from Orlagh O’Neill. St. Johns failed to score in the second half but tried very hard and can console themselves with the fact that this was a much closer game and score line than was witnessed in the corresponding fixture at Corrigan Park earlier this season. Final score Dunloy 2-08 St. Johns 1-01
