On Thursday evening Tir na nÓg camogs travelled to Ballycastle for the second half of the league campaign and despite the torrential rain earlier in the evening the weather was kind to both teams and stayed dry for the duration of the game.

Tir na nÓg got off the mark first with a lovely cross field ball from Aine Devlin to Emily Falloon who floated the ball over the bar but Ballycastle full forward Laura Dallas registered their first score after a wide ball.   The visitors got their second score when advantage was played after a foul on a Tir na nOg player and Emily Falloon popped the ball over the bar to go move one point ahead. In an outstanding debut performance Emma-Louise McAreavy stared in defence for Tir na nÓg showing guts and determination but equally Jennifer McLoughlin put her body on the line on a number of occasions to keep Ballycastle key forwards Maebh O’Neill and Caitlin Kelly from scoring.

On 22 minutes Bronagh McKeague sent over a point for the home side and minutes later Maria Bakewell and Clodagh Boylan tacked on one apiece before Shauna O’Neill ran down her line and pointed for the blues. Tir na nOg then a bit of good fortune when a long range shot by Emily Falloon deceived the Ballycastle goalkeeper and dropped into the net from 45metres to give her team a one goal lead at the break. 0-4 to 1-4.

Ballycastle started strongly in the second half and Dallas pointed a 45 to cut the arrears to two. They piled on the pressure before wing half back Cameron McGaughey, who give an outstanding performance from the word go, run out of defence at lightening pace and played a ball into full forward Orla O’Neill who was put under severe pressure from Orla Donnelly. Under pressure Orla broke the ball to corner forward Caitlin McGaughey who struck an unstoppable ground stroke to the top corner of the net.  Five to the good Aine Devlin stretched the lead to six when she pointed on forty five minutes and though Ballycastle fought hard to get back into the game stout defending bu Dervla O’Neill, Hannah Crilly and Caitlin McAreavy kept them at bay.  Finally the pressure paid off for the home side and Maria Bakewell popped over a point, but Tir na nÓg continued to dominate and Aine Devlin added two more for the visitors before the final whistle to give them a seven point win.
