Shamrocks see off Faughs to book semi-final spot

Junior Feis Shield Hurling

Loughgiel Shamrocks 3-25 Carey Faughs 3-10

Loughgiel booked their place in the Feis Shield semi-final when they saw off the challenge of Carey Faughs at Fr Healy Park. 0-3 to 0-0 score ahead after just two minutes as Gooch Gillan, Turlough McCarry and Nial McFadden pointed, it began to look like this would be a cake-walk for the Shamrocks but when Carey got going they hit back with three of their own from Patrick Butler (2) and Kevin Murphy to tie the score.

For the next fifteen minutes it was ‘nip and tuck’ as both team picked off some high quality scores, and the Faughs actually edged ahead thanks to a Christopher Butler goal on thirteen minutes. The points kept coming for Loughgiel but Butler got his second goal to give Carey back the lead and Kevin Murphy landed a fantastic point from over 70 metres, but the last ten minutes of the opening half belonged to the Shamrocks as Conor Christe, O.D. Laverty and Gooch GIllan fired over points before Cahir McGrath finished the half with a goal to give the Shamrocks a 1-14 to 2-7 half time lead.

After the interval Loughgiel really got on top and pulled well clear. Gerard Butler sent a bullet of a twenty metre free to the back on Loughgiel net but substitute Conal McMahon grabbed one at the other end to wrap up a convincing 3-25 to 3-10 victory.
