All County Hurling League Div 3&4

Kickham’s Creggan 2-15 Bredagh 2-10

Former All Ireland Junior and Ulster Intermediate Hurling Champions, Kickham’s Creggan have made a poor start to this year’s league campaign but there have been signs in recent weeks that they are heading back to something like their previous form following a good win over Bredagh on Wednesday night.

Kickham’s recorded their 3rd league win of the year when they met Bredagh in Div 3&4 at the Staffordstown Road. It was the Bredagh men who set the early pace with the Kickham’s guilty of too many wides during the opening quarter. Scores were exchanged until the 25th minute Bredagh got their first goal and they went into the break with a 5 point lead.  Creggan could have been further behind but for the sterling work of Tommy McCann, Jake McAteer, Sam and Aiden Maguire in defence. Bredagh continued to lead through the second half but the home side began to find a bit of form and Oran and Conor McCann started to hit the target and brought it back to a 1 point game. They were rocked back on their heels when the visitors got their second goal to put them four up with fifteen minutesto play. Kevin Rice decided to take matters in his own hands and after fielding a high ball he ran 30 meters and with the help of a deflection scored Kickham’s first goal. This score seemed to inspire the home side and a high delivery found James Dougan on the edge of the square and he unleashed a pile driver to the back of the Bredagh net. Kickham’s saw the match out to win by 5 but Bredagh will have been disappointed to leave the Staffordstown Road empty handed.
