Lámh Dhearg hurlers moved up to fourth place in the Division 3/4 hurling league after a comfortable 11-23 to 0-05 win over Loch Mór Dál gCais at Mallusk this evening (Monday).

The rampant Lámh’s were quickest off the mark with wing-half forward Jack Trainor notching the first point of the evening after thirty-five seconds and that was quickly followed by the opening goal which came courtesy of livewire full-forward Conor McConville who burst through the Loch Mor defence and  fired past Gerard Pickering snr.

Domhnall Nugent reeled over his first point of the evening after three minutes and two minutes later the Hannahstown men had their second goal as Jack Trainor was afforded too much time and space and made no mistake to make it 2-02-0-00.

Trainor and Nugent found further points to increase the Lámhs lead before Gerard Pickering jnr registered Loch Mor Dál’s first point in response on eleven minutes.

On 13 minutes Lámh Dhearg hit their third goal of the evening as Domhnall Nugent powered through the Loch Mor defence and drove the ball to the net to make it 3-04-0-01.

Mark Finnegan followed Nugent’s goal with a point from play and although Pickering responded with Loch Mor’s first point from play; midway through the half corner-forward Michael McGuigan hit his sides forth goal of the evening as Lámh Dhearg led 4-05-0-02.

They increased their lead further thanks to two converted frees from Conor McConville; the first of which was driven low to the net by the full-forward and second sailed over the bar to make it 5-06-0-02.

Ten minutes before the break Domhnall Nugent was again afforded too much time and space and the wing-corner forward stuck away his second goal of the half to score his sides’ sixth goal of the evening.

Loch Mor Dál hit back through converted frees from Pickering jnr and Liam Burke, however it was the rampant Lámhs who tagged on further scores before the break.  On twenty-five minutes Conor McConville found his third goal of the evening and second from play to make it 7-06-0-04.

Conor Herron then found range after turning over a Loch Mor Dál puck out and two points from Jack Trainor and another from Nugent ensured that Lámh Dhearg would comfortably led 7-10-0-04 at the interval.

The Hannahstown men increased their lead from the restart through an excellent Mark Finnegan point and further scores followed through Conor McConville, Jack Trainor and a converted Domhnall Nugent free.

A further two goals arrived in quick succession for Lámh Dhearg, first Domhnall Nugent secured his third of the evening with high driven effort down the middle of the goal and then Conor McConville added his forth of the evening with a low effort that Pickering snr failed to keep out as Lámh Dhearg stretched their lead, 9-14-0-04.

Manager Simon Wilson was then afforded the opportunity to empty his bench and although defenders Christopher Nolan and Michael Herron departed, the changes failed to upset the red hands rhythm as Conor McConville added a point to his increasing tally and Michael McGuigan hit successive scores to increase their sides lead.

Nugent and McConville hit further scores before the aforementioned was replaced by Darren Fox. Lámh Dhearg found their final two goals of the evening through young hungry corner forward Mark Finnegan who struck twice in quick succession to make it 11-19-0-04.

Finnegan showed why he is gathering a fierce reputation with a further two points to make it four scores in a row with Jack Trainor nipping in for another point.

Loch Mor Dál continued to battle on throughout the second-half and were rewarded with a converted free through Daniel Bell, but the final say belonged to Lámh Dhearg substitute Gerard Smyth who struck the game’s final score to put a seal on a comprehensive 11-23-0-05 win which has moved the Lámhs into fourth place in the league standings, boosting their aspirations of making division three when the league splits next season.
