U-14 plate final
Creggan 2-12 Antrim 1-2
A strong second half performance from a useful Creggan side saw them outscore a battling St. Comgall’s Antrim in this U14 Plate final played at Lisburn on Sunday. The early exchanges were very even with Sean McAuley scoring the opening point to put Creggan ahead after two minutes but the Antrim town side were soon back on terms. Creggan began to take control and two points from Sean Duffin and another from Sean McAuley saw them move three in front. Antrim pressed hard in the closing stages of the half and scored a goal on the 20 minute mark to make the score 0-4 to 1-1 at half time.
After the break the Staffordstown Road side began to get on top and Oisin McAteer fired to the net after two minutes to give them back a lead they were not again to lose. As the young Kickham’s started to get on top they hit five points in quick succession with Sean McAuley (0-2), Michael Murray, Sean Duffin and Odhran Hampsey all on target.
St. Comgall’s never gave up and were rewarded with their only point of the half but when a Michael Murray free kick looped its way to the net in the 15th minute there was no way back for the side from Antrim Town.
Creggan put in a storming finish with points from Sean McAuley, Peader McGuckian and one from Michael Murray saw them run out convincing winners. A word of consolation for St. Comgall’s however, in consecutive weeks they have contested U12 and U14 finals and a lot of good work is going on within the Antrim club at present.
