St John’s and Antrim legend Andy McCallin was honoured at the prestigious Gaelic Life Club All Stars dinner in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan last weekend. Andy, the first and only Antrim player to win a football All Star award when he was part of the first Carroll’s GAA All Star football team back in 1971, received the Gaelic Life Hall of Fame Award. Back in 1971 the Johnnies star was at the height of his powers. He was a member of the Antrim team who beat Roscommon in the All Ireland Under 21 Football final at Croke Park and the following year showed his versatility by playing on the Saffrons side who won the All Ireland Intermediate Hurling title. He played on the Antrim team who reached the Ulster Senior Football final in 1970, and although beaten by Derry in the final he was top scorer in the Ulster championship that season.

Here we post an interview with the Johnnies legend by famed GAA videographer Jerome Quinn in which Andy gives his views on receiving the award and also looks back to his original All Star award in 1971.
