Ulster University 4-6 Universty of Limerick 0-11
Ulster University are through to the semi-final of the Sigerson Cup after beating University of Limerick by 4-6 to 0-11 in this afternoon’s quarter-final at Jordanstown.
A big physical UL team, who were a little too physical at times, had no answer to a slick moving UU side in the opening half at the end of which they led by 3-4 to 0-2. Monaghan’s Ryan McAnespie scored a brilliant first goal, and should have had a second seconds later but for good work by UL keeper Barry Redmond. However the UU fans had not long to wait for the next goal as corner forward Lee Brennan finished a superb flowing move with his team’s second goal, and not be outdone his brother Rory came through from half-back to slot home the third.

UL made a positive start to the second half with two quick points but UU team captain Ronan McNamee killed their momentum when he broke through to fire in his team’s fourth goal. To their credit the Limerick side kept battling away, despite having played most of the game with fourteen men and even after they were further reduced to thirteen. They knocked over the last five points of the game but the outcome had longs since been decided as UU booked their place in next week’s semi-final against either DCU or UCD.
Ulster University Scorers: Lee Brennan, Ryan McAnespie, Rory Brennan (1-1) each, Ronan McNamee (1-0), Danny Tallon (0-2), Eoin McHugh (0-1).
