Armoy and Glenariffe shared the points when they met in Sunday’s Division 2 League encounter at Glenshesk. In a fiery contest Owen Kinney appeared to have won it for the home side with his second goal of the game which put his team a point ahead, but Alex O’Boyle hit a late point for the visitors to earn them a share of the spoils.

In a real see-saw battle Kinney gave Armoy an early lead with a point only to see it cancelled out by one from and Alex O’Boyle 65. Kinney edge his team back in front only to see Aaron Cosgrove bring the visitors level again, and they went ahead soon afterwards when O’Boyle was on target from another free.

Trevor Linton restored parity when he pointed for the home side, and when Kinney got in for his first goal a minute later they home fans must have felt they were getting on top, but it was to be short lived as Oisins full forward Kevin McDonnell found the net at the other end to tie up the scores again after twenty minutes. The visitors edged back in front when Alex O’Boyle sent over another free, and though Conor Christie ties the scores for the fifth time with a well taken point from play, O’Boyle was on target again just before half time to give his team a one point lead at the short whistle.  (Armoy 1-4 Glenariffe 1-5)fullsizeoutput_12eaf

It was O’Boyle who struck first in the second half and suddenly the Oisins were two ahead, but Johnny McErlain showed his free taking prowess to pull one back for Armoy and again reduce the gap to the minimum. The Glenariffe men appeared to have taken a grip on the game when Alex McDonnell goaled from play in the 48th minute and though Johnny McErlain pulled a couple of points back from placed balls O’Boyle was able to respond with similar scores at the other end.

Armoy had closed the gap to just two points when Kinney grabbed his second goal of the game, and his ninth of the season, to put them a point up and for a time it looked like they would hold out for a much needed win in this tough division, but the visitors were not finished yet and when O’Boyle was presented with a late chance his aim held true as he slotted over to earn his team a valuable league point.

A hard fought contest, which at times threatened to boil over and to add to the excitement the two of them meet again on Wednesday evening at 7 in the Countess of Antrim Cup in Glenariffe in a game which should be worth watching.
