Feis na nGleann 2018
Under 16 B Hurling Final
Shane O’Neill’s 5-18 Con Magees 3-4
Shane O’Neill’s Glenarm claimed the Under 16 B Feis title at Feis na nGleann on Saturday when they scored a comprehensive win over Con Magees at Slemish Park, Ballymena. Playing with the wind in the opening half the Glenarm boys were unstoppable and when they went in at half time with a 3-13 to 0-2 lead it was clear there was no way back for the Glenravel side. To their credit the Con Magees did perform a lot better in the second half, and three goals gave the scoreboard a better look, but Glenarm were winners all the way and full deserved their title.
Glenarm started with a Ciaran Magill point in the fourth minute and when full forward Sean O’Boyle rifled a shot high to the top corner of the Glenravel net a minute later they were on their way. James O’Kane knocked over a point from the corner and thirty seconds later O’Boyle grabbed his second goal seconds later the writing was on the wall. Magill added two more points before Glenravel got their first score of the game through Catha Hynds in the tenth minute, but by the time he got his team’s second on fifteen minutes Glenarm had added four more, two by Magill and one each from O’Boyle and Aidan Scullion. Scullion fired over two more in the nineteenth minute, Magill followed with two more while Sean O’Boyle and Niall McGarrell one apiece to give their team a 3-13 to 0-2 lead at the short whistle.
With wind advantage Con Magees showed much better in the second half and after McGarrell had increased the Glenarm lead with a well taken point Cathal Hynds got their second half up and running. Aidan Scullion tagged on another one for the winners before right half forward Ryan McQuillan grabbed Con Magees first goal on 38 minutes. Unfortunately for Glenravel this prompted a reaction from the winners and full forward Sean O’Boyle had the ball in the Con Magees net twice in three minutes. To their credit the Glenravel boys kept plugging away and goals from Cathal Hynds and Ryan McQuillan gave them a lift, but Glenarm were home and hosed and deserving winners by a twenty point margin.
