Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Chivers with the Antrim minor team and their mentors
Members of the Antrim Under 16 and Minor squads and their mentors who won this season’s All Ireland B titles were guests as a reception hosted by the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Chivers on Tuesday 11th September at the council offices in Coleraine. Captains of the winning teams Ellen Hynds and Beth McAuley brought along the trophies which their respective teams had won this season, the minors beating Westmeath in an epic final in Drogheda back in April while the Under 16s saw off the challenge of Derry in August.
Offering her congratulations, the Mayor said: “It is very special for a county to win an All-Ireland title and I would like to offer everyone involved in this double success my very warmest congratulations.
“Sport plays an important role in our local communities. It promotes social skills, teamwork, self-esteem and discipline and we cannot underestimate the positive impact it has on our young people. These players have been guided by a group of dedicated mentors who willingly give up their time for their benefit and my thanks go to them for their continued commitment and the role they play.”
