Dunloy 2-9 Ballycastle 1-8 (After extra time)

The fans of Dunloy and Ballycastle hurlers were treated to a real spectacle at Cushendun on Saturday when the Cuchullains faced McQuillans in the final of the North Antrim U12 Go Games. The side were tied at the end of normal time and they still could not be separated at half time in the in extra time, but Dunloy produced a storming finish to seal victory.

Conor Donnelly put Ballycastle ahead inside a minute but Dunloy came back with two points from midfielder Oisin McCamphill, Donnelly brought Ballycastle level and the sides remained deadlocked until the 14th minute when corner forward Tiernan Staunton grabbed a goal to give Ballycastle a three point cushion, but two points by McCamphill in the 18th and 21st minutes brought Dunloy back to within a point at half time.130

Donnelly and McCamphill exchanged points early in the second half to keep the gap at one, before Donnelly again found the target to put Ballycastle two ahead. Midway through the half Dunloy centre forward Ben O’Kane pulled one back for Dunloy to leave just a single point between them. There was no further scores for the next nine minutes and when Conor Donnelly hit two quick points a minute from the end of normal time to put the Ballycastle boys three clear they appeared to have done enough to seal the win. However Dunloy were not finished yet and as the game went into injury time Oisin McCamphill drove a free all the way to the Castle net to bring the game to extra time.

The first period of extra time saw just one point from each side to keep things tied at 1-7 apiece and it was still deadlocked midway through the second period as McCamphill edged Dunloy ahead, only to see the score back on terms with a point from Ballycastle centre back Cathair Donnelly. A replay appeared to be on the cards but Dunloy got there in the end and after Oisin McCallin put them back in front centre half back Padrak Martin sealed the win with a goal from play with time almost up.
