Antrim Ladies Football – Junior B final
Oisins 3-1 Con Magees 2-4
Oisin’s Glenariffe are the Antrim Ladies Football Junior B champions after a narrow win over neighbours Con Magee’s Glenravel 2nds in Sunday’s final at Musgrave Park. Trailing by a goal at half time the Glenariffe girls appeared to have a big task on their hands as they turned to face a stiff breeze in the second half. However a goal within thirty seconds of the restart brought them level and though Con Magees moved back in front briefly a second goal entering the final quarter gave them an edge that they held to the end.
Aimee Traynor put Con Magees ahead in the third minute with a point from play and though Niamh O’Neill brought Oisins level three minutes later the Glenravel girls hit back strongly with two goals in as many minutes, the first from Keira O’Neill in the tenth minute and the second from Aimee Traynor in the twelfth. Glenravel appeared to be in a strong position at this stage but Oisin’s Tara O’Neill pulled a goal back three minutes later. Both teams had chances to add to their totals for the remainder of an exciting first half but neither side could make a breakthrough as so they went to the changing rooms with Con Magees holding a one goal lead. 2-1 to 1-1.
Con Magees lead was not to last long however as Oisins full forward Sorcha Cosgrove got in for the equalizing goal within thirty seconds of the restart. Aimee Traynor put Con Magees back in front eight minutes later and they held the slender advantage for almost ten minutes, though they had a bit of good fortune on their side when Oisins’ Tara O’Neill rattled the ball off the crossbar in the 39th minute. However there was no stopping Sorcha Cosgrove’s second goal in the 47th minute, a score that gave the Oisins a two point lead and there was renewed hope for the Glenravel girls when the ever dangerous Aimee Traynor pointed to cut the gap back to the minimum two minutes later.
With five minute of normal time left to play Niamh O’Neill gave the Oisins a bit of breathing space with a well taken point, a lead they held until injury time when Rachel McBride cut the gap back to one. The Glenravel girls went all out in a bid to save the game but the Oisins held firm in the exciting final minutes to claim victory and bring the cup back to Waterfoot.
