Second half subs seal if for Shamrocks

Darragh’s Coaches Antrim Intermediate Camogie Championship final

Loughgiel Shamrocks 3-6 Brídíní Óga Glenravel 2-4

The introduction of substitutes Anna Connolly and Annie Lynn midway through the second half helped Loughgiel turn the screw on a battling Brídíní Óga Glenravel side in the final of the Darragh’s Coaches Antrim Intermediate camogie championship on Thursday evening in Portglenone.

The Shamrocks got the better start to the first half, Glenravel the better start to the second and it was finely balanced with Brídíní Óga ahead 2-4 to 2-3 when the subs arrived to stretch their defence. Annie Lynn also delivered 1-1 to edge her side in front and it was enough to decide a tight game.

Loughgiel went 1-1 up inside the opening two minutes, both scores from Charley McCarry, the goal a long free from Katie McKillop that landed favourably for her to force home.

However two frees from Caoimhe Duffin brought Brídíní Óga into the frame as it became increasingly obvious that scoring would be at a premium.

Although Ciara Dobbin nipped in on the end of another long free from Katie McKillop for a second Loughgiel goal in the 23rd minute, Glenravel came back immediately with a goal fashioned along the end-line by Shauna Kelly and Ashling Millar and finished by Shauna McDonnell.

Behind 2-3 to 1-2 at the break, Brídíní Óga came back strongly at the start of the second half; Torie Edgar and Caoimhe Duffin both pointed before they took the lead in the 36th minute when Kirsten Edgar picked out full-forward Ashling Millar for a neat finish.

However the Glenravel girls didn’t add to that total and the Loughgiel subs helped turn the tide with Charley McCarry’s close skills gaining possession near the end to shoot the final point.12Loughgiel’s Aine Doran in action against Bridini Oga’s Torie Edgar
