The Dunloy team who won the 2016 minor championship will be among the favourites for the Under 21 this season
Under-21 Football Championship Set to Commence
The under-21 football championship is set to commence this week-end on a new format but the organisers will be hoping that the weather will be kind as winter may well extend an icy grip.
The entrants are arranged in group formation with five sections scheduled to proceed on a round robin basis and at conclusion it will split into A and B sections before proceeding on a respective knock out basis.
The competition was originally scheduled to make use of synthetic surfaces but the lack of 3G pitches available in the South West division has intervened to ensure plans had to be changed and the opening round is to proceed at neutral venues.
The opening round will possibly give hint to potential winners with the tie involving Dunloy Cuchullian’s and St Mary’s Aghagallon likely see most attention focused, with the meeting of 2017 winners O’ Donovan Rossa and St Gall’s also likely to provoke plenty of interest.
The opening round as follows;
Sat 3rd Nov (all games at 2.00pm)
St Joseph’s Glenavy v St Comgall’s Antrim (Aldergrove)
Kickham’s Creggan v Casement’s Portglenone (Ballymena)
